Yall, Frida Kahlo was not indigenous, she was a Mestiza. Latin American racial class doesnt function like in the US. She was not associated with a nation and she supported the “La Raza” movement. A theory during her time period originating from Jose Vasconcelos who wrote the unfortunately famous paper, “La Raza Cosmica” which was a eugenicist paper that promoted Mestizaje as a positive, and that mixing with white was the ideal way to better the race, including that black people were monstrous and could only be redeemed through racial mixture. Frida Kahlo became part of the mestize elite and had indigenous servants of whom she stole art and art concepts from. Many actual indigenous people do not like her and there have been posts on tumblr and twitter previously criticizing Frida Kahlo for these things. Do your research into indigenous perspectives on her please.
